Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by driving north and buying cheap Swedish furniture

That seems to have been the choice of approx 90% of the Republic’s population today judging by the amount of Southern accents and number-plates at Ikea. Great to see the Euro being spent to further our economy.

I was in the centre of Belfast today briefly this morning, doing some work in the office (I’m such a trooper). I was leaving just as the parade was starting and have to say that if the Council are trying to make this holiday more inclusive, they have to try a bit harder. Celtic and Republic tops seem to be mandatory requirements – I wonder how you would get on, celebrating in a green Norn Iron top?

By the way, today was the first time I had ever been to an Ikea store. I can understand now why people find it so appealing, but I have to say that I found the range of choice (maybe in conjunction with the amount of people there) quite unsettling. There is no doubt that it is great to have retailers like Ikea and John Lewis coming to Ulster’s shores.

  1. Just found your blog – very good. I don’t know if the council can do much about what the clientele wear at parades (unless that’s what people on the floats were wearing!). Come to Dublin next year, you’ll be just fine in your Norn Iron top..
