We had a service in our church tonight that I was involved with focusing on debt and the increasing problem that it is in our society. The speaker was an accountant and was excellent. He looked at the Biblical principles of money, possessions and debt and gave some real practical suggestions regarding them all. I certainly found it useful.
I strongly believe that issues such as debt and the environment that are so firmly on the public agenda need to be seriously considered and addressed by the church. The Bible speaks on these subjects and has at least principles that can be applied to most other similar questions concerning the secular world. We need to be seen to be of relevance and have something to say to the world around us from a position of faith.
I also think that this gives us a real opportunity to reach out and support people outside of the church community who are struggling with debt. To do this, we need to be informed on subjects like debt and in this regard you might like to check out this website: www.themoneyrevolution.net.
